GROWING POT

Are you growing your pot?

Why do we re-pot many indoor plants, some year after year? It is a practice that helps a plant to grow healthy and strong.  The fresh soil is full of nutrients.  The larger pot allows the root ball to grow wider and deeper.  Even though this is a beneficial practice, damage to the plant can be done, leaves can be torn off and root hairs, which bring in most of the nutrients and hydration, are often broken.  Yet, going through that damaging event stimulates the plant’s growth.

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

Psalm 1:1-3 NKJV

David equates the follower of God as a tree planted by rivers of water in Psalm 1.  The Godly person doesn’t give in to the subtle ways of Satan but is firm in the foundation of God’s Word.  He is planted, grounded, and mighty.  He is not wavering or weak, not easily toppled over by the wind.  He knows God’s Word is truth and the futile words and wisdom of man are vain.

The God-fearing person is fully nourished by being connected to God through His Word.  Being by the rivers of water the tree always has access to ample supply of water, never to run dry and thirsty.  David laments of living in a dry and thirsty land, but it is the Word of God that brings the knowledge of Living Water so that the Christian needs to thirst nevermore.

The evergreen tree does not drop all its leaves in summer nor winter. Heat and cold, wet and dry weather, good and bad; these changes come and go and he is unaffected by the change.  The Christian can be content knowing God will supply all his needs when he seeks the Kingdom of God first.

This tree; planted, nourished, and un-wavering grows fruit and prospers always.  The Christian connected to God, firm in the faith, content, and trusting in His promises will be blessed.  He can bring comfort to the hurting, strength to the weak, provisions for the needy, and point others to the Savior who offers salvation to the ungodly.

Where are YOU planted? Is it in God and the truth of the Scriptures, or is it in the trust of man, government and money?  How big is your pot? Are you willing to get out of your own way, out of your comfort zone to grow deeper in God’s word so that you can be a blessing to others in this world?
